So what do you think? Is it safe to stop following politics for a while yet?

A conviction against Trump needs to happen. I have been following one of my state senators, Jeff Merkley, who is doing his job. What he is saying is exactly what I would be saying in his position. It’s almost like we live in a constitutional representative republic.

America needs to hold everyone accountable for their actions. If we don’t follow the basic principles of law, then we are no longer a country. On top of following the law, our country needs to seek the truth.

How can anyone dismiss the fact that this was a planned attack? It was an attack perpetrated by people who have been led to believe the Government is the problem.

The Government is a problem, but it’s a reflection of us, and we are part of the problem. We don’t want to see it, but it’s true.

Many people are in debt, barely care about themselves or others, and live without consequence. The Government doesn’t care about us because many don’t care about life in general. If we want a better world to live in, it starts and ends with our actions. It starts with us holding ourselves and everyone accountable.

I am changing my tune starting now. I don’t harbor ill will towards anyone that voted for Trump. I hope that most of us can now see the truth after experiencing January 6th. Trump has taken us to dark places, and we were not better under his unprincipled influence.

I’m an independent. I voted for Biden because I saw the warning signs of an emerging fascist state.

Here are some facts.

We Have Everything To Lose

I have a beautiful nine-year-old daughter that has a wonderful life ahead of her. I want to see her learn and grow and keep becoming a beautiful person. I don’t want to see our country spiral out of control because we minded our own business.

I will forever sacrifice the political policies I want for moral leadership. The best version of America I remember is the one that stands for truth, justice, and the American Way.

The best Americans care about their countrymen and pledge loyalty to the constitution. The best Americans care about our allies and are ready to help in their time of need. It’s the right thing to do, wouldn’t you do it for your best friends?

When we follow our principles, everything else becomes easier. Following principles eases decision making and helps everyone find common ground. It’s the right thing way to behave, especially now. It is the moral center that very few of us can stand on.

I’m Staying Put; I Won’t Move On

Will we sit idly by while our country loses its fight to make itself great again, or will we return to our principles? Will we realize what made us great is right at our fingertips? Will we save the republic?

I’ll leave you with this wise, stoic quote. I hope we can save the republic and do it as a team, not under an aspiring dictator.

“Your principles can’t be extinguished unless you snuff out the thoughts that feed them, for it’s continually in your power to reignite new ones. It’s possible to start living again! See things anew as you once did—that is how to restart life!”
