January 6th is a date that will live in infamy alongside September 2011. Never before has a U.S. President encouraged attacks on Congress and The Capitol Building. American politics have been changed forever, and the outcome of that change is largely unknown.

The Republican Party has made it clear that they would like to avoid any discussions about January 6th. It’s not time to preserve power at all costs at the expense of liberty and unity. It’s time to take a deep and clear look at what happened. Leaders in Congress must provide a way to inform all citizens about what happened at the Capitol Building and elsewhere. It is their duty to all citizens.

Republican Leadership

Many Republicans, including senior leaders Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy, have voiced their opposition to a January 6th commission. The 9/11 commission was a bi-partisan commission that was necessary. We The People, need to know what happened to make the right choices at the ballot box in 2022 and 2024. Republican leadership is blocking this because they know it will make them look worse than they already do.

Republican leaders continue to shield Donald Trump from any consequences for his numerous attacks on our government, which is us. These Republicans are putting their party before the country. This is not how our country is supposed to work. No party owns the United States; WE THE PEOPLE, own this country. We decide who leads us, not a failed President who will soon find out he is not above the law. The law binds us; it is who we are. Without laws that apply to everyone, we are lost as a country.

Democratic Leadership

I sympathize with democratic leaders that are unable to find a way to gain consensus with Republican leaders. It appears that it’s impossible to find a way to compromise in this political climate. That aside, democratic leadership is helping feed the division between the two parties. The democratic tendency to shove social behaviors down everyone’s throat is causing people to skip voting or vote for republicans out of spite. Our country has many problems to deal with; we need to focus on stamping out the pandemic, recovering the economy, and many other high-priority topics. Once we’re out of the woods with the pandemic and the economy is booming, we can focus on lower priority issues.

The Facts

We the people, require a clear accounting of key facts about the January 6th insurrection. We need the facts to make the right decisions at the ballot box in 2022 and 2024. It is the duty of all Americans to demand the truth from our leaders.

As a citizen of The United States of America, I demand that all congress members support a review of the events of January 6th.

We will save the republic if we stand up and tell our representatives to do the right thing.
