Covid vaccination has become a hot political topic. People believe you should get the vaccine no matter what, and on the other side, they’ll get a vaccine over their cold dead bodies. Unsurprisingly, Americans have two extreme and ridiculous points of view that are incompatible with each other. The two sides feed on and need each other to survive with rational people caught in the middle. It’s up to all sensible people to compile some facts and make a decision based on reality.
The Reality
We are in a pandemic the likes of we’ve never seen, and by we, I mean us in the current era. According to the CDC’s most recent numbers, COVID-19 has killed over 700,000 people in the United States alone. How many people are 700,000 people?
It’s about 400,000 less than the crowd on the left, Obama’s inauguration crowd in 2009. It’s also about 100,000 more than the crowd on the right at Trump’s inauguration in 2016.
That’s a lot of people. All those people are dead thanks to COVID-19. Many of those deaths were preventable, and many more are still avoidable. It’s far from over as death counts rise and people refuse to get the vaccine based on conspiracy theories and fake news.
Choices
I imagine most of us are incredibly tired of the COVID-19 restrictions and mandates. I know that I’m sick of all of it, but I still care about other people. I’m vaccinated, and I still wear a mask when required. It’s not compliance; it’s taking responsibility for the welfare of the people around me. Fear doesn’t drive me; facts do. I’m not afraid of death, but I want to be here for my family. I don’t want to involuntarily check out of life because I refused to face reality.
We all have a choice before taking a vaccine. Even with mandates, we can quit our jobs and do something else. Even with school, we can choose to home school. Personal responsibility is required when living in a country that takes public health safety seriously.
It’s simple.
- Consult a doctor.
- Understand the risks of the vaccine.
- Understand the impact of not getting the vaccine.
If you’re not doing all three of these steps, you’re not taking personal responsibility. The circumstances right now dictate that we should do everything we can to protect ourselves and those around us from COVID-19. It’s not a violation of rights to take precautions and work together to get past this pandemic. It’s our responsibility to ensure a healthy healthcare system by preventing a visit to the emergency room if we can. People ask for the shot as they slip away from reality, thanks to succumbing to lies and corruption.
Conclusion
I sure hope we can save the republic from the lies and corruption that soak the fabric of our society. It’s going to take all of us to fight against the COVID-19 virus AND the virus of irresponsibility. People have given up on fact-checking thanks to the constant fake news mantra spread by Donald Trump and his supporters. While they are correct that the media is being irresponsible, there are ways to find the truth. Use multiple fact-checkers, use tools like ground news to determine the slant reporters are pitching. Avoid using YouTube and other social media platforms to confirm your bias. Teach yourself how to apply discernment to everything you read and see everywhere.
