I might be writing on a scroll or parchment right now if science stalled after the first century. We humans would still be stuck in the stone age if some intelligent Cro-Magnon didn’t buy into the scientific method.
Do you know why many leaders treat scientists like garbage in 2021? Why is Rand Paul lauded for attacking eighty-year-old scientists at every turn? I don’t, but I’ll explore some possible reasons.
Republicans
Where did the science-loving Republicans go? Are they playing Republican video games? Republican and Democratic confidence in science has sharply diverged, and it shows. Even Fox-affiliated news outlets are reporting on the deadly partisan divide.
Republicans, especially Trump supporters, are dropping like flies thanks to rampant lies. Instead of being excited about MRNA technology, many people believe EVERYTHING that’s happening today is part of a global conspiracy. Sure, Republicans helped create multi-billionaire people like Bill Gates, and those people like him have entirely too much power, but not EVERYTHING is a conspiracy.
Finally, how are there 139 Republican climate deniers in the 117th Congress? What’s left of any sane Republican leadership needs to run on science instead of lies. Using the scientific method with the rule of law is infinitely more helpful than loud lying Republicans regularly appearing on Faux News and OANN to spew propaganda.
Experts
It’s no secret that many Republicans despise experts.
Reality
Science is the best thing we humans have going for us. Thanks to science, I just had lasers shot in my eyes, and now I have 20/20 vision. Thanks to science, I won’t die from a deadly virus wreaking havoc on humanity. Science is opening doors to the quantum realm of computing that contains the seeds for yet another tech revolution. It’s scary stuff for the elders of the year 2021, but the kids are having a raging party in a candy store.
It’s easy for people to blame technology on all society’s problems, but it’s fear we must fear. Our world is racing at breakneck speed towards progress. New technological breakthroughs enhance our bodies, minds, and spirits when used effectively. Today’s kids can change the world with a few swipes of a black mirror and some keystrokes. Unsurprisingly, many older people are freaking out while watching Faux News, OANN, and the like. They foresee a doomsday future where they have lost their precious power.
It’s up to us, the people that love science, to speak loudly and carry an extensive database. It’s up to us to save the republic. Now let’s get to it.
