Once upon a time, talking back to your elders was unacceptable. If you were an asshole to teachers, there were consequences both at school and at home. Fast forward to the current day, kids run public schools, while adult leaders lie, cheat, steal, and do whatever they want with few consequences.

How did American society get here?

Lying Was Offensive

Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, was impeached in 1998 for lying about cheating on Hilary Clinton with Monica Lewinsky. Before Bill lied on the stand, I thought Bill’s personal life wasn’t any of my business. However, when he was caught lying, I lost all respect for him. Lying was offensive in 1998, but today it’s “Just how it is.”.

Crime Was Criminal

Even Tricky Dick Nixon resigned after becoming a criminal. Anthony Weiner resigned after sexually harassing women along with Al Franken. Leaders used to resign, but Mr. George Santos didn’t leave Congress until he was expelled despite lying to get into office.

This is not to say anything was perfect in the past; it was far from perfect. However, there were more consequences.

Why Are There Less Consequences?

It’s threefold.

Kid Gloves for Kids

Kids are treated like adults when acting like children. Many public schools are worried about offending parents by disciplining them after they blatantly disregard rules and social norms.

Screaming obscenities to teachers isn’t acceptable and requires real consequences. Pretending like they are simply troubled kids who need coddling isn’t helping anyone.

Identify Politics

Power at all cost trumps holding Congress members accountable for corruption. Republicans held onto George Santos until the bitter end because they feared losing a vote. They say it was about waiting for the law to take its course, but we know that’s a lie.

Democratic leaders are also culpable, with New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez refusing to resign despite bribery charges.

Local Accountability

People we know hoard, litter, cheat, lie, and are corrupt. They’ll steal from their parents and grandparents while shirking their parental duties. They’ll make their next drug fix more important than anything else, yet society coddles them. Parents turn a blind eye and reward them for garbage behavior, while former Presidents and Billionaires can do no wrong. They’re role models for our community, and it shows.

Conclusion

I’m sick of it all.

I’m sick of liars having zero consequences.

I’m sick of people trashing our neighborhoods with disgusting graffiti.

I’m sick of assholes driving like maniacs, drinking and driving, and pissing all over societal norms.

Are you?

Let’s save the republic with facts and reason.
