I’m watching America fall apart at the seams, and it’s not because of some external enemy. It’s because we’re following the wrong people.
We have a leadership crisis that’s eating away at the foundation of our republic. People are putting their faith in leaders who lead through fear, brute force, and corrupt behavior instead of principles, values, and moral uprightness.
This behavior eats at my soul.
The Fear Merchants
Look around you. What do you see? Leaders who constantly tell you to be afraid. Afraid of immigrants, fearful of change, scared of people who think differently, terrified of losing what you have.
These fear merchants don’t want you to think clearly. They want you to react emotionally. When you’re afraid, you’re easier to control. When you’re scared, you’ll accept almost anything that promises to protect you.
Sound familiar? It should.
I’ve watched this pattern play out over and over. A leader identifies a threat, amplifies it beyond reason, and then positions themselves as the only solution. It’s a classic manipulation tactic that’s been used by dictators and demagogues throughout history.
The problem is, we’re falling for it. We’re trading our critical thinking for the illusion of safety.
The Brute Force Approach
Then there are the leaders who think might makes right. They believe that if they can intimidate enough people, they’ll get their way. They use threats, bullying, and raw power to achieve their goals.
This is where it gets repulsive.
I’ve seen politicians threaten their colleagues, intimidate witnesses, and use their positions to punish anyone who opposes them. They don’t try to persuade through reason or build consensus through dialogue. They bulldoze their way forward, leaving destruction in their wake.
This isn’t leadership. This is the mob, dressed in a suit, running our government.
Real leaders understand that power comes from persuasion, not coercion. They know that lasting change happens when people choose to follow, not when they’re forced to comply.
The Corruption Epidemic
But the worst part? The corruption that’s become normalized in our political system.
We’ve reached a point where people expect politicians to lie, cheat, and steal. We’ve become so desensitized to corruption that we barely notice it anymore. When a politician gets caught in a lie, we shrug our shoulders and say, “Well, that’s just politics.”
No. That’s not just politics. That’s the death of democracy.
Corruption spreads like a virus. When leaders engage in dishonesty, it sends a message that integrity doesn’t matter. When there are no consequences for bad behavior, it encourages more bad behavior.
I’m tired of watching good people become cynical because they see corruption rewarded and integrity punished.
What Real Leadership Looks Like
So what should we be looking for instead? What does principled, value-based leadership look like?
Authentic leaders have these qualities:
- Integrity - They say what they mean and mean what they say. Their words and actions align.
- Humility - They don’t think they’re above the law or better than the people they serve.
- Courage - They’re willing to stand up for what’s right, even when it’s unpopular.
- Empathy - They understand the human impact of their decisions.
- Accountability - They take responsibility for their mistakes and learn from them.
These aren’t just nice-to-have qualities. They’re essential for maintaining a functioning democracy.
The Path Forward
Here’s what we need to do to fix this leadership crisis:
- Stop rewarding bad behavior - When leaders lie, cheat, or steal, we need to hold them accountable—no more free passes.
- Support principled candidates - Look for people who demonstrate integrity in their personal and professional lives.
- Demand transparency - We deserve to know what our leaders are doing and why they’re doing it.
- Build local leadership - Change often starts at the grassroots level. Get involved in your community.
- Educate ourselves - Learn about the issues and don’t rely on soundbites or talking points.
The Stakes Are Too High
This isn’t just about politics. This is about the future of our country and the world we’re leaving for our children.
When we tolerate poor leadership, we’re saying that mediocrity and corruption are acceptable. We’re telling future generations that integrity doesn’t matter, that principles are optional, that character is irrelevant.
I refuse to accept that future.
A Call to Action
So here’s my challenge to you: Stop following leaders who use fear, brute force, and corruption. Start supporting people who demonstrate real character and integrity.
Look for leaders who:
- Tell you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.
- Admit their mistakes and learn from them.
- Treat everyone with respect and dignity.
- Put principles above political expediency.
- Are willing to lose an election rather than compromise their values
These people exist. They’re not always the loudest voices or the most charismatic speakers, but they’re the ones we need to follow.
The Bottom Line
We have a leadership crisis because we’ve been settling for less than we deserve. We’ve been accepting poor leadership because we’ve forgotten what good leadership looks like.
It’s time to remember. It’s time to demand better. It’s time to support leaders who will lead us toward a better future instead of dragging us deeper into division and dysfunction.
The choice is ours. We can continue down the path of fear, corruption, and division, or we can choose a different path. We can choose to follow leaders who embody the principles and values that made America great in the first place.
I know which path I’m choosing. I hope you’ll join me.
Let’s save the republic by supporting leaders with absolute integrity and character.
